What The Pet Dogs In Meghan And Harry's Christmas Card Reveal About Their Family
Seeing celebrities with their dogs gives the rest of the world a relatable, enjoyable glimpse into their lives. Sometimes you learn that certain celebrities own unusual pets, and in some cases, dog ownership provides hints about the noteworthy character and interests of the rich and famous. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle serve as a prime example. The pair are the proud parents of two children and three dogs. Considering the nature of their four-legged children and the circumstances that led to their joining the royal family, it can be assumed that Prince Henry and Meghan Markle are active, spirited, and compassionate.
When the famous royals exchanged vows in 2018, Meghan brought a beagle named Guy into the marriage. The couple adopted a second dog the same year, a Labrador whom they named Pula. Then in 2022, the duo added another beagle to their family and named her Mamma Mia. The beloved canines made several appearances in the "Harry & Megan" Netflix docuseries, but more recently, they were included in the couple's recent Christmas card in December 2024 (per X).

Beagles and labs require patience and engagement
Before he met Meghan, Guy was abandoned by his owner and ended up at a kill shelter in Kentucky. According to Prince Harry's memoir, "Spare," Meghan saw the beagle on the shelter's website in 2015 and "fell in love" (via Hello!). The prince added that he shared his wife's love for pets and values the benefits of dog ownership, so the pair adopted a black lab, Pula, as newlyweds. But their compassion didn't end there; their second beagle, Mamma Mia, was also a rescue. ABC News reported that this dog, along with 4,000 other beagles, was saved from a breeding facility in Virginia.
Labrador retrievers are known for their intelligence as well as their high energy level and playful nature. Beagles are also considered very playful and friendly breeds, though usually not as active or lively as labs. They are primarily known for their curiosity and stubbornness, which means their ideal owners typically being very patient.
To keep up with the physical demands of either breed, you would have to mirror the characteristics, to some extent. Both Prince Henry and Meghan Markle have publicly shown their commitment to a healthy, active lifestyle, and their dog ownership confirms it. The Economic Times claims Prince Harry has been seen walking Pula on the beach. Meghan, meanwhile, has been known to take the dogs on long jogs. Based on what we can see in the card, the entire family doesn't mind spending time outdoors — something both breeds surely appreciate.
