Eliminating Pet Urine Odor From Concrete Is Simple With This Type Of Cleaner

Dog and cat urine smells have plagued pet owners for decades, and discovering hidden soaked puddles of urine can ruin anyone's day, especially on a concrete surface. Concrete is particularly challenging because its pores hold in liquid like a sponge. This can make it extra hard to rid the area of old smells even after you've already cleaned.

Luckily, there's one cleaner you use to help remove pesky pet odors and urine stains. First, identify any urine-stained areas with a black light — it can reveal stains that are not visible to the naked eye. Once identified, these areas can be cleaned with Trisodium Phosphate (TSP). TSP is one of the best pet stain removers, helping to break down urine directly by binding with the urine, leaving behind easier-to-clean uric acid crystals. It also effectively eliminates odors with this process. After using TSP, the area can then be further cleaned with a product such as Rocco & Roxie Supply Co. Stain & Odor Eliminator. However, there are some safety precautions you should take prior to cleaning your concrete with TSP.

How to clean concrete floors with TSP safely

While effective in getting rid of dog pee smells, TSP is considered a harsh chemical that produces fumes, so ventilation is important. Since it is harsh to us, and our pets, it is vital to ensure your pet does not come anywhere near the solution when using it. Be sure to wear gloves and a mask while working.

First, mix together a half cup of TSP with a gallon of hot water to create your cleaning solution. Once the TSP solution is applied, the area can be scrubbed with a deck brush or other bristle brush. It should then soak for 5 minutes before rinsing with hot water. Then, the area can be dried with a wet vac. After soaking and scrubbing one time, if the stain persists, apply the TSP a few more times. Once done, allow the area to fully dry for at least 24 hours before letting your pets back onto the surface. While concrete can be a pesky surface to keep free of stains and odors, TSP can help make them a little easier to manage.
