The Most Expensive Puppy Sold For $5 Million At Auction & Is A Rare Dog Breed

Owning a dog can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars over the pet's lifetime, but imagine a pup costing more than the average American's combined possessions. This was the case for Cadabomb Okami, a dog described by its owner as "the first of its kind" (via The U.S. Sun). The massive canine sold for a whopping $5.7 million to S. Sathish, a famed former dog breeder from India, adding to the list of the most expensive dog breeds in the world. Described as a "wolfdog," Okami is a mix between a wolf and a Caucasian shepherd, a breed recognized by the American Kennel Club with origins in Eastern Europe.

Okami was born in the United States but sold through a broker in India. Due to his unique nature, the hybrid dog has become like a rare mobile exhibit, moving from place to place. His new dad has been showing him off at various red-carpet functions throughout Karnataka, India. "My dog and I get more attention than an actor at a movie screening, we both are crowd-pullers," Sathish told News 18.

While he used to make money from breeding, Sathish now makes it by taking Okami and his other dogs to events. He owns more than 150 exotic breeds, all of which live on his 7-acre farm. Sathish receives invitations to bring his canine family members to celebrity events, fashion shows, and other high-profile soirees.

About the wolf-Caucasian shepherd hybrid breed

Since this hybrid is said to be the first of its kind, many details about breed expectations have been based on the Caucasian shepherd's characteristics. Caucasian shepherds weigh 99 to 170 pounds at the end of their growth process, which typically occurs around age 3. Okami hit 165 pounds when he was only 8 months old, so he likely has more growing to do. In terms of temperament, Sathish describes the fluffy giant as friendly despite his wolf facial features.

Sathish claims that someone bred a rescued wolf with a Caucasian shepherd in the early 2000s and that Okami is a fifth-generation descendant from that initial breeding. As a dog lover since childhood with a keen interest in rare dog breeds, he said he had been searching for this specific hybrid for over 20 years. When he learned that the pup was available for sale, he couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy him.

One question that has surfaced about the dog involves his diet, considering his wolf DNA and the fact that wolves and dogs are the same in many ways. Wolves are primarily carnivorous, so they feed mostly on mammals and birds in the wild. Sathish stated that Okami eats "the usual food" and doesn't require anything special to survive. However, he later mentioned that he feeds all 150+ of his dogs a diet of raw food. For Okami, this equates to nearly six pounds of raw chicken daily. Okami certainly is one pampered, unique pup.
