The Pet Kibble Company With The Most Recalls Of All Time

Recalls. It can seem like a scary word when it's in reference to products you buy for your canine or feline companion. No loving owner wants to learn that a certain food they've been buying for their pet for years has landed on the Food & Drug Administration's (FDA) "Recalls & Withdrawals" list. However, one company in particular sells several pet food brands that have been recalled for health reasons: Diamond Pet Food.

Despite being a family-owned business that aims to produce quality, affordable pet food, Diamond Pet Food has unfortunately been featured in the news for all the wrong reasons. In the spring of 2012, salmonella was discovered in batches of Diamond Pet Food dry dog food. The FDA issued a national recall in response for all food that was manufactured from December 2011 to April 2012 in the Diamond Pet Dog Food plant in Gaston, South Carolina. 

The recall included Diamond, Diamond Naturals, Professional, and Taste of the Wild brands purchased in 21 states as well as Puerto Rico and parts of Canada. The event resulted in a whopping 24,781,468 pounds of food being recalled, but it wasn't Diamond Pet Food's first or only recall. Diamond Pet Food also initiated a recall in 2006 for two dog food brands for aflatoxin contamination. Cat foods were also affected; in 2009 and 2013, a recall was issued for several brands for a low level of thiamine. The good news is, things have certainly changed for the better since then.

If you've recently purchased food from Diamond Pet Food or have been considering it, you're probably wondering if there have been any more recalls since the last one. No food recalls occurred between 2012 and 2023 (with no data or known recalls for 2024.) Plus, no current recalls for Diamond Pet Food appear on the FDA's website as of May 2025. By the way, if you're interested in knowing the pet food brand with the most recalled food by far (not just kibble), you'll be happy to know it's not Diamond Pet Food.

Plus, Taste of the Wild ranked seventh on Dog Food Advisor's Best Dry Dog Food list for May 2025, despite being one of the recalled brands in 2012.

Needless to say, the company seems to have recovered nicely from the hiccups, and many customers still trust the brand.
