What Fruits Can Canaries Eat?

The main diet for canaries includes a steady supply of canary food in seed or pellet form. Adding fruits and vegetables to his diet should be at the rate of 10 to 25 percent of his daily intake, to provide him additional vitamins, nutrients and carbohydrates for energy to sing and entertain his human flock.

Make Me Fruity

Canaries like to feel like a part of your family. Offering your little feathered friend some fruits on a daily basis allows him a tasty, sweet snack at your snack time. Canaries enjoy many fruits including apples, oranges and cantaloupe. Other tasty treats include apricots, watermelon and honeydew, oranges, pears, berries peaches and bananas. You can cut the fruits into small pieces that he can pick up with one foot, or skewer them and attach the skewer in his cage for him to stand on and pull off tasty bites.

Remove Uneaten Fruit

Remove any uneaten fruit from your canary's cage at the end of the day. You wouldn't want to eat spoiled fruit in the night, and he surely does not either.
