When dressing your cat, make sure there are no strings or other parts of clothing that can wrap around his neck. Use Velcro fasteners for quick escape. One-piece outfits are the best choice.
Tip
Patterns for 12-inch dolls or larger work best for adult cats.
Cats might not always enjoy wearing clothes, but many will tolerate it for a while. Small children often love to dress up cats and push them around in doll buggies. However, even cats who seem to be indifferent are probably wondering how they can get out of this predicament. If your child loves to dress her cat for their daily stroll, you can help by making him some cute little clothes using doll-clothes patterns.
Step 1
Choose the pattern you want to use for the outfit you will make. Doll-clothes patterns for larger dolls work the best for sizing. Cut out the pattern you will use and pin it to the material using straight pins.
Step 2
Cut out the pieces of the material and remove the pattern from the material. Follow the directions included with the pattern for sewing the pieces together with a sewing machine.
Step 3
Follow the directions for seam allowances to make sure the clothes are going to be the right size. Pay attention to details because doll clothes pieces are very small. Mark spots with straight pins that will require Velcro to hold the clothing on the cat.
Step 4
Turn the outfit right-side out and press with an iron. Sew Velcro to the spots you marked with straight pins. The kitty's outfit is ready for wearing and your child will be ready to dress him up and go.
